Around thirty of the dedicated team of volunteers who deliver Community News to your letter box , wherever you live, came together shortly after the publication of our February issue to mark the ‘changing of the guard’.
The gathering at the Tannery in Upper Settle, our new distribution centre, was a rare opportunity for deliverers to share stories of how Community News gets through whatever the weather, whether it is to the remote hamlet of Selside on the way to Ribblehead, the villages of Long Preston, Hellifield and Austwick, or the comparative metropolis that is composed of the twin towns of Settle and Giggleswick.
Those attending were reminded that whilst the team organising the editorial, advertising and distribution has changed, we still rely on a brave band of supporters who go that final mile, or more, to get our publication to your door.
The main purpose of the event was to say a heart-felt thanks to Alastair Cook, who has edited the magazine, through thick, thin and the covid pandemic; Ian Gray whose garage has acted as our distribution hub; and Barry Forster who has done the formidable job of ensuring that there is enough money in the bank to meet our next print bills.
The three (pictured above) were presented with suitably inscribed commemorative slate cheeseboards as a thank you.
