Summer in Settle means flowerpots, lots of them, all over town! This year’s festival is already underway, delighting locals and visitors alike. We went behind the scenes to find out how these inventive creations come to life and you can read all about it inside issue 188 of Community News.
If you’ve ever fancied owning a share in a pub, now’s your chance. Local residents in Hellifield are trying to raise enough funds to buy and reopen The Black Horse as a community-owned free house and you can make a pledge to help them towards the total required. But hurry, you only have until 8th August. Find out more inside this issue.
It’s a time for fond farewells as Richard Wright, well-known to many parents and children in the district as headteacher of the Settle and Malhamdale Partnership is stepping down this September. He reflects on 25 years leading local primary schools in a special four-page feature across our centre-pages.
Here at Community News we are on the lookout for more people to help us produce the magazine, from editing copy, proof-reading, writing on subjects such as sport, news, farming, local government, culture, liaising with advertisers and potential advertisers and website content management. If you’d like to get involved, see our appeal here.
Finally, many thanks to Stella Burke from Rathmell who has provided us with a very vibrant, colourful piece of artwork for our cover.
