The festive season is upon us, and by the time you read our latest issue, which you can download and read online here, the sound of Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey will be emanating from every shop doorway.
I’m far from a Grinch at this time of year and try to embrace it with almost as much enthusiasm as I did when I was a child. The celebrations might be slightly different once you grow up but I get a tingle of excitement when I pick up the double-issue of the Radio Times, still as much a part of Christmas for me as turkey and mince pies.
Congratulations to Alfie Jack Harrison, aged 9, who attends Settle C of E Primary School and has been chosen as the winner in our competition for local children to design the cover of Community News! We loved the way Alfie used his imagination to include lots of his favourite things about Christmas, with Ribblehead Viaduct as the backdrop, all enclosed inside a Christmas decoration.
We were overwhelmed with the number of entries we received and we would like to thank the headteachers and staff at Settle Primary and Settle College who encouraged so many of their students to take part. You can see a selection of the other entries inside the latest issue.
In the centre-pages, you can find out about all the Christmas events organised by churches across the district, and we hope you’ll be buying some of your gifts from our advertisers. Please mention Community News if you do.
All that’s left for me to do now is wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you in 2025!
