Space Band
by Tom Fletcher
Thomas, 6 years old and a regular visitor to the library, chose Tom Fletcher as his favourite author. His Dad is also a fan! Space Band is one of Fletcher’s exciting books. Thomas likes it because ‘the story is good and I like the pictures›.
The main character, George Racket, wants to become a 10-year-old international rock star. The main problem is that his band is not very good. His attempts to write lyrics are not very successful. One of his songs includes the chorus ‘Nothing rhymes with sausages’. Even so, the band has a new name, The Earthlings and George has a lot of self-belief.
However, the band takes off – literally – when it is beamed into space. Suddenly the band is playing to a stadium full of aliens! A feelgood story, witty text and amusing drawings makes this a popular book for 6-11 year olds.
