Issue 195 – Oct/Nov 2026

Settle & District Community News - Issue 195 (Oct/Nov 26)

As autumn rustles in and the flowerpots are packed away after another successful summer festival, this issue of Community News brings together stories that reflect both the challenges facing our area and the remarkable energy of the people who live here.

Our report on the ongoing campaign to restore the hourly 580 bus service between Settle and Skipton highlights just how important reliable public transport is to local communities. Meanwhile, Settle Energy Local Club is looking to welcome more members, offering an opportunity to benefit from locally generated electricity.

There is plenty of good news to celebrate, too. Settle Victoria Hall’s Beer Festival raised more than £14,000 for two charities, our local swimming pool has enjoyed an exceptionally successful summer, and the Langcliffe Singers’ A Shepherd’s Year is attracting national attention.

The latest Bowland wader survey offers some cause for concern about our wildlife, but the enthusiasm of Clapham and Austwick Brownies and Guides for their litter campaign offers an encouraging reminder of how much young people care about the environment.

Looking ahead, once again we’re inviting local schoolchildren to design a Christmas-themed cover for our December issue, and we also have our Annual Open Meeting coming up on 12th October.

Finally, thank you to Stella Burke for the artwork on the cover of this issue, and to everyone who contributed articles, photographs and information, and to the advertisers whose support makes this magazine possible. We hope you enjoy the issue and find something that inspires you to get involved in local life.
